Memorial Day and our annual trek up to the Mackinac region for our campout with the Smakals. Weather was cool but great and we had fun. I love that area, can't ever get enough of it. Z is getting old enough to be fun on trips and he had a blast. As you can see, he's the perfect tourist. Our friends wanted to go to Fort Michilimackinac so we tagged along. I never get bored of the Mackinac Parks sites, they rock! We also checked out the fish hatchery in Oden (really cool place and free too) played on the beach and did lots of cooking over the fire. I don't think I've ever seen the kids so tired. Can't wait to get back up there in July.

M's winter bearsuit came in handy! As did our heated mattresses in our camper.

Daddy had fun in the kid's room at Michilimackinac.

The annual Memorial Day Pageant at Michilimackinac. It's something I've never seen despite all my years up there so we checked it out. Being a former reenactor, it was disappointing to see that it was nothing more than a regular reenactment. It started late, boring fashion show and then a little battle. At one time I thought they reenacted the taking of the fort during Pontiac's Uprising but then again, seeing British soldiers get their heads cleaved open is probably a little un-family friendly. I just find it funny that despite the time period differences, reenactors are all the same. Goofing around during battles, being farby, and generally screwing around when it's supposed to be serious. We're odd ducks that's for sure!

I just knew this would be his favorite part of the fort! An 18th century treadmill!
